Lighweighting

Numerical systems analysis, lifetime assessment, type testing

Lightweighting is an important approach to reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emission in vehicles and transport systems during the use phase. However, it is the holistic ecological approach that highlights ways to sustainably reduce the burden on the climate and the environment, particularly with electric vehicles which cause no CO2 emission during operation. Resource-efflcient lightweighting therefore requires extensive methodological expertise. This has always been the work philosophy of Fraunhofer LBF because for mechanical engineenng products, particularly safety-relevant components, lightweighting is inconceivable without structural durability.
